Travel Diaries: Lisbon

A photographic travel diary of my days in Lisbon...

Happy 2017 Everyone!
After having the most stressful 2016 which included completing my Postgrad degree, getting a glimpse into the working world, and having a car accident, it was safe to say that I was in a bad place mentally and all the stress took a big toll on my overall health. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, and had numerous anxiety attacks each week. So I made the very adult-y decision to pack up my things and go to Europe for 2 weeks.

Its always been on my bucket list to go to both Portugal and Spain, mostly because my boyfriend is half Portuguese and half Spanish. He has already come with me to my homeland, Belarus, so it was only fair that I visited his. So we shall start this Photographic Travel Diary in Lisbon, or rather, Lisboa as you really should say it.

The Best Restaurants

As much as you want to deny it, the Portuguese make the best food. Hands down. It was almost impossible to find any restaurants/coffee shops that weren't good, but these 3 made my best of the best list:

1. Bairro do Avillez in Chaido serves a very unusual and intriguing take on a standard mediterranean menu which is definitely worth a try.
2. Dom Feijão in Alvalade, is definitely the place for the best traditional Portuguese food
3. Solar dos Cortadores in Arroios, is an absolute hidden gem of a place we found about 700m from our apartment in the older part of town.

Must-Visit Places

Some of these will be pretty obvious touristy sites, but no trip to Portugal would be complete if you don't go...

1. Palace of Pena in Sintra (a 30min train ride, completely worth every second)
2. Pasteis de Belem
3. Mosteiro dos Jeronimos and its parks outside
4. Bairro Alto streets on a Saturday night (for some real bar-hoping)
5. Praça do Comércio ComércioPraça do Comércio
